Open the door! Let Him come into your life. You become a Christian the moment you let Him in. But that is just the beginning of a life of trust and growth and learning to depend on Him who died in your stead.
There will be times in your life when nothing seems to go your way--when all you can do is rely on the only One who can rescue you from the things in life that seem to pull you in a different direction than you choose to go. But in spite of trials and challenges, you will experience Christian growth and victory, and a peace that comes from knowing you have a life with Christ eternally.
There will be miracles in your life when you put yourself in God's care. My Dad was a missionary in China in the 1920's. There was a lot of unrest in the country at that time, and as he traveled from place to place, he had to pass through dangerous situations. The only protection he had was his trust in God. Twice he was captured by bandits that roamed through the countryside. Both times he was robbed and put up to be shot. The first time the gun jammed and wouldn't fire, so the bandits left. The second time an old man stood in front of him and interceded in his behalf.
Once when he was at home, he awoke in the middle of the night, with the feeling that he should move the baby's bed from under the window. No sooner had he moved the bed than a stray bullet from the street came crashing through the window just where the crib had been. I believe in miracles, also. You see, I was the baby in the crib.
Dad always believed, "The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them" (Psalm 34:7, KJV). His motto throughout the rest of his life was "Our Lord Provides."
The Christian lives by trust in God. We can have absolute assurance that when we surrender to Christ, God will always be by our side through every joy and every heartache, through every trial and every victory. He will walk beside us each step of the way--whether the going is hard or easy--and He will even pick us up and carry us if need be. As Christians, our assurance also includes knowing as a certainty that eternity is ours as long as we look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne . . ."
Revelation 3:20, 21, NIV
". . . I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty."
John 6:35, NIV
". . . I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness."
Jeremiah 31:3, NIV
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30, NIV).
To have a healthy life we need fresh air, pure food, and exercise. To have a healthy Christian life we need the same thing!
*Fresh air is gained by breathing, or communicating with God through prayer. It is impossible to live a life in Christ without a time of talking to God.
*Pure food is found in His Word, the Bible. God talks to us everyday if we read and study its pages.
*Exercise is sharing the love we have found in Christ with our friends and loved ones and those we meet each day.
If you choose to live this way--praying to your Creator and Redeemer, studying the Word of God, and sharing the love of God--you will find greater joy and peace and contentment than you have ever known. As you willingly cooperate with Christ, He will live out His life in you.
"As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him. . . . And ye are complete in Him" (Colossians 2:6,10, KJV).
